The work week is over and today Kyong Jung, Ellen and Sophia offered us a day trip over the Korean Rockies and down to the Ocean. It was a great day with visiting, relaxing and sight seeing.

With winter coming on and the Kimchee Cabbage ready for harvest everyone is stocking up. A family will use up to 80 or more kilos for the year.

After driving through the Vegetable garden area we headed up and over the mountains. The mountains are very steep and the roads are full of many twists and turns.

Along the steeper sections these little sandbags are placed ready for the snow that will soon be falling on the mountain passes.
The mountain range is about 1700 meters high and the road crosses at about 800 meters above sea level. At that place there is a view point which is the starting spot  for a hiking trail to the top of the mountain. It takes all day to make that climb but there is limited space for housing at the top so arrangements must be made in advance.

After leaving the high mountains we dropped down to Sea Level and spent some time walking  along the beach

Lunch at McDonalds was a treat.

Our drive took us through the city of Sokcho.
We spent some time at the Seaoraksan National Park. The trees were beautiful.

There is also another Buddhist Temple that was built in the mid 1980's.

This 14.6 Meter high bronze statue of Buddha even had a temple built under it.

The dry river beds will soon be flowing again as the winter rains and snow begins to fall.
